William A. Kern, 72, of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Teaneck,NJ on December 6, 1943, he was the son of the late William and Dorothy Buttenbaum Kern. Mr. Kern was a graduate of Union College, Class of 1969.

On December 1, 1973 in LaGrange,NY, Bill married Ingrid Soderblom. Mrs. Kern survives at home.

He was employed by IBM in Fishkill as an electrical engineer retiring in 1994 after 30 years with the company and was the owner of Dutchman Laundromat for many years.

Bill was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley. He was an integral part of the annual Pleasant Valley Weekend as he helped to implement and organize the event each year.

In addition to his wife Ingrid, Bill is survived by his 3 children; Britt Kern(Ben) of Mint Hill, N.C., William Kern (Rebecca) of Greenfield, MA. and Katrina Kern of Pleasant Valley; his 4 grandchildren; his sister, Carol Simmons of Rochester,NY; and a niece and several nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 1 pm from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Valley. A reception will follow in the church hall at 1:30 pm. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley.
