State Police Increase DWI Patrols for Halloween
As we approach Halloween and Halloween weekend the New York State Police have announced that they are going to step up DWI patrols and checkpoints.
According to News 13, the New York State Police have said that this year in a effort to stop people from driving under the influence, they are going to have increased patrols all across the Hudson Valley and throughout New York State.
One State Trooper told News 13 that most drivers can expect to see an increase in sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols on Halloween night. As always the number one reason for checkpoints and patrols is to get drunk drivers off the road, especially on a night when many kids are walking around neighborhoods trick or treating.
The NYSP said that last year on Halloween they investigated more than 1,700 vehicle crashes that resulted in 251 injuries and three fatalities.
Those numbers are just the tip of the DWI problem as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that from 2013 to 2017, 158 people were killed nationwide on Halloween night and of those fatalities a whopping 42 percent involved impaired/drunk drivers.
