The New York State Police have announced the results of the 18-day enforcement campaign "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over".

According to a press release, the national crackdown on impaired driving resulted in 739 D.W.I arrests during August 19th through September 5th. State Troopers issued 43,704 total tickets, which included:

  • 17,555 - Speeding
  • 1,413 -  Distracted Driving
  • 2,306 - Child Restraint and Seatbelt Violations
  • 531 - Failing to “Move Over"

Of the 739 D.W.I arrests, 219 occurred on Labor Day weekend. State Troopers also investigated 3,243 crashes. Of those crashes, 1,006 were injured and 11 were killed.

New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II said:

Our message is very simple: Drive sober, put on your seat belt and put down your smart phone. Making these smart choices each time you get behind the wheel will help avoid needless tragedies. The State Police will continue to work with our local partners to target reckless drivers and keep our highways safe

Last year's campaign resulted in very similar numbers, where 769 were arrested for D.W.I. and 47,359 tickets were issued.
