Do have important papers that have been piling up? Do you know that more and more people get their identity stolen from things that are thrown in the trash? How can you prevent your identity from being stolen? Here are a few ways to keep your identity from being stolen.

One of the most recommended ways to keep your identity safe is to shred your mail or important documents. Here is an opportunity to get some of those items shredded for free. Legal Shred has teamed up with the Poughkeepsie Public Library to offer a free shred event at the Boardman Road location on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 9am to 11pm.

Here is what you can bring to the shred event (you are asked to limit your items to 2 - 3 boxes or bags per person):

  •  paper (white or colored),
  • plastic ID cards
  • carbon paper
  • computer disks
  • empty prescription bottles
  • file folders
  • credit cards
  • CDs/DVDs
  • microfilm/ microfiche
  • old checkbooks
