Paul J. Volpe, Sr. of the Town of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 93.
Son of the late Gaetano and Mary Territo Volpe, he was born on January 1, 1924 in Pittston, PA. He married the love of his life, Dorothy M. Dolan, on September 19, 1946 in Wilkes-Barre, PA; they were married for over 70 years. Mrs. Volpe survives at home in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Volpe proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a Radio Mechanic, stationed in England and working on B-24 bombers during World War II. During his service he earned the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Good Conduct Badge; he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945. After working in a variety of businesses, Mr. Volpe relocated to Poughkeepsie in 1964 to work at IBM in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill and retired as a Senior Specialist. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry, vegetable gardening, baking and cooking. Most of all, he loved being with his family; his life truly revolved around them.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, survivors include his children, Paul J. Volpe, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, Linda Roland and her husband, Steven of Closter, NJ, and Tina M. Volpe of Poughkeepsie; and his grandson, Zachary P. Roland.
He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Volpe, and his sisters, Gertrude Attardo, Lillian Volpe and Mary Turcan.
Family will receive their friends on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
