The former MINI dealership on Route 9 is currently being transformed.

In July of 2020 the Mini Cooper location in the Town of Wappinger ceased operations. For five years the dealership sold their iconic "tiny" cars to Hudson Valley drivers before closing down for good. After the Dutchess County location was shuttered, MINI locations in Ramsey and White Plains remained opened

Since then, the huge building has sat vacant on Route 9, causing many people to wonder if it would eventually be used for something else. There were rumors of a possible Tesla dealership coming to the Hudson Valley, but that doesn't appear to be in the works for this Route 9 location.

According to the Town of Wappinger, the owners are currently seeking permission for improvements that includes the construction of an 11,409-square-foot addition for motor vehicle service and parts storage.

The permits are being obtained by Subaru of Wappinger which is currently located a few miles north on Route 9 near Party City. Subaru is part of the Prestige Auto Group which also owned the former MINI dealership. Paperwork submitted to the town states that Subaru intends to open an 18,750-square-foot dealership at the site. It's also seeking permission for new signage and paving.

The new dealership is expected to offer new and used inventory that will be on display in a massive 3,840-square-foot showroom. It's estimated that the new location will employ 40 workers and be open Monday through Saturday.
