A Middletown man who was found responsible for a series of armed robberies in Orange and Sullivan Counties during the summer of 2013 has been sentenced.

In White Plains Federal Court, 28-year-old John Crews, Jr., of Middletown was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Crews plead guilty in September of 2015 to conspiring to commit armed robberies and brandishing a firearm in the course of those robberies.

According to the prosecution, in the summer of 2013, Crews and others carried out a string of robberies in Orange County and Sullivan County. In about a 6 week time period Crews participated in 10 robberies.

During those 6 weeks, Crews and others robbed two homes, two gas stations, a bar, a bakery, three stores, and a restaurant.

Officials say Crews displayed a gun in every robbery. The robberies took place in Middletown, Wallkill, and Monticello.

In addition to his prison term, Crews was sentenced to three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,577 to various establishments that he robbed.
