
Michael John Billen, a LaGrangeville Resident, Dies at 56
Michael John Billen of LaGrangeville passed away peacefully on January 2, 2016. He was 56 years old. Born on March 6, 1959 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Stella Billen and the late Michael Billen, Jr.
Mike was very proud to serve his country as a naval officer. While enlisted he received the good conduct award, battle efficiency excellence award, M16A1 service rifle and the sea service deployment ribbon. Mike went on to join the Seabees (Navy) just as his father did. The Seabees were an area of great pride for Mike. He maintained a close friendship with the people he served with during those times. Each fall, Mike took part in what became known to participants as "Deer Camp". Deer Camp was first held at his close friend Jock Coffin’s farm then later at Mike's home in Union Vale. Mike enjoyed this opportunity to spend time with his friends in the local wooded landscape that he had known since childhood. He was also a proud past member of the Union Vale Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife Fae Billen and their adored children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear brother and sisters and all his wonderful nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his brother Joseph.
Visiting hours will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY 12545, Thursday, January 7, from 6 to 9 PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday January 8 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 15 North Ave. Millbrook, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Union Vale Fire Department Community Support Fund PO Box 21, Verbank, NY 12585.
