Local Hudson Valley Brewery Named Best in All of New York State
A competition judging over 600 beers brewed in New York named a local brewery as the brewery of the year.
Hundreds of beers in 25 beer style categories were judged in a competition by the New York State Brewers Association. At a ceremony this weekend in Albany medals were handed out to the winners who were selected by 50 uniquely qualified judges tasked with decided which beers were best.
Hudson Valley brewers brought home some big awards, including Brewery of the Year.
In the Barrel Aged category, Newburgh Brewing company captured the bronze for their Bourbon Barrel Aged The Newburgh Conspiracy. Catskill Brewery in Livingston Manor grabbed the gold medal in the Belgian Farmhouse category. Their Freak Tractor 100% Brett Beer captured the top spot.
Apparently, when it comes to brown ales, the Hudson Valley has the market covered. Local breweries nabbed all of the winning medals. Kings Court Brewing Company in Poughkeepsie tied for silver with Shmaltz Brewing in Clifton Park, while the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park claimed the top spot for their Gold Class Project Br-Br-Br-Brown ale.
Newcomer, Kings Court, received a second medal for their All Night IPA. The Beer was awarded bronze in the Pale Ale category.
The CIA grabbed another gold medal in the Wheat Beer category for their Mise en Place Wit. More gold went to the Peekskill Brewery for their Skills Pils. Industrial Arts in Garnerville claimed the Silver in the same category.
Kold One from Mil House Brewing Company, a very popular beer that seems to be everywhere in the Hudson Valley, also earned a silver medal in the Golden / Blonde Ale category.
But the big winner of the night was the CIA, who's brewery led by brewmaster Hutch Kugeman. With the highest cumulative score of all beers entered, it was named Brewery of the Year.
