Janet G. Koch, a Lifelong Kingston Resident, Dies at 85
Janet G. Koch, 85, a lifelong resident of Kingston, NY, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont, in the presence of her family. She was born May 5, 1932 in Jamaica, Queens, NY to the late Henry and Gertrude (Shaw) Roesler.
Janet was a graduate of Kingston High School with honors in 1950. After high school, she worked for several years for the Personal Finance Company on Wall St., in Kingston. She married John W. Koch on November 22, 1953. At that time, Janet put aside her career, devoting her life to caring for her family. She also acted as Secretary/Treasurer for the family business.
Janet was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Kingston where she was an active volunteer: running the church's nursery, organizing rummage sales, and contributing to bake sales for the women's group, W.E.L.C.A. She managed the church's outreach program in the Rondout area, the "Building-Up Store", for many years. She was an avid fan of crossword puzzles, Jeopardy!, and any type of word games.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Barbara Joscelyn and her husband Thomas of Ulster Park, John E. Koch and his wife Patricia of Renton, WA, Sandra Gorr of Trucksville, PA, five grandchildren, her half brother, Henry Roesler, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where friends and family may visit on Sunday, August 13 from 2pm to 5pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday at 10am with burial following in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Memorial Fund, 104 Wurts St., Kingston, NY 12401.
