'America's Most Famous Dessert' was born in upstate New York in the 1890's. Today, foodies and history buffs can visit a location to learn more about this tasty invention and more.

What Is 'America's Most Famous' Dessert'?


JELL-O is known for being 'America's Most Famous Dessert'.

The JELL-O Gallery in LeRoy, NY explained the history behind this dessert. They shared that Peter Cooper had an idea to create a food with gelatin but it wasn't until 1897, when Pearle Wait took action that this was created.

Wait, from LeRoy, NY was a carpenter who was working on creating a laxative tea and cough remedy. He then was experimenting with gelatine and created a dessert that was soon named JELL-O. Wait's wife, May named 'America's Most Famous Dessert'.

In 1899, Wait sold the trademark of this product for only $450.

They mentioned that 

"Today JELL-O is manufactured by Kraft/General Foods in Dover Delaware."

There are a wide variety of different JELL-O flavors to enjoy such as Berry Blue, Fruit Punch and more.

Where Can Foodies And History Buffs Visit The JELL-O Gallery In New York?


JELL-O lovers can visit LeRoy, NY to learn more about this historic dessert. The JELL-O Gallery has exhibits for guests, On The Road and the JELL-O Brick Road.

The JELL-O Gallery allows guests to see original advertising, recipe books, memorabilia and more on site. A guided tour is also available of JELL-O history.

The On The Road experience highlights 100 years of transportation with information about carriages, wagons and more of the 1840's.

The JELL-O Brick Road is sponsored by the LeRoy Historical Society is a brick walkway location along the LeRoy House Garden.

There's an online merchandise shop where foodies can purchase some of their favorite items related to 'America's Most Famous Dessert'.

A chef's hat, JELL-O license plate holder, JELL-O mouse pad, JELL-O onesies and more are for sale. 

They offer different shipping rates depending on how much the shopper spends. The lowest shipping rate is $8.95 and the highest shipping rate is $17.95

"The Jell-O Gallery is open from the first Thursday in May to the last Sunday before Christmas. "
