The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has suspended thousands of driver's licenses and some drivers might not even know it.

Last year the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYSDMV) announced that after allowing drivers in New York to "self-certify" their vision to renew their license during the COVID-19 pandemic the grace period was coming to an end and some could have their license suspended.

New York Drivers Could Have Their License Suspended

Back in November, we warned drivers that if they took part in the self-certification vision test they needed to submit a new vision test ASAP, or risk having their driver's license suspended. Over 100,000 drivers were on the verge of being suspended late last year as the deadline to complete a vision test at a DMV office expired at the end of November 2023.

Over 45,000 drivers in New York had their licenses suspended in December and now it appears that some drivers still haven't gotten the message according to CBS.

Thousands of New York Drivers Remain Suspended

If you haven't submitted your yearly vision test yet you are more than likely to be part of the nearly 36,000 licenses that remain suspended as of April 5th, 2024. If you require taking a vision test they are offered at select DMV locations and other approved providers. If you need to find a provider or location near you simply enter your zip code online here and once you hit search you will be provided with all of the nearby DMV-approved locations.
