Accord Speedway Secures Permit for New Non-Racing Events

The Accord Speedway in Ulster County, New York has secured the necessary permits to hold non-racing events but is still NOT allowed to host one type of live event.

Meetings, opinions, plans, studies, and more are a simple snapshot of the "hoops" the owners at the Accord Speedway have been dealing with the last couple of months after they decided they might be interested in hosting other non-racing events at the popular race track in Ulster County. Some might say that owner Gary Palmer has been "driving around in circles" in an attempt to get the town's permission to bring new ideas and events to the hamlet of Accord in the town of Rochester, NY.

Accord Speedway Wants More Than Racing

The Accord Speedway at 299 Whitfield Road in Accord is one of the only racetracks in the area to host racing events in the spring and summer months and when they aren't racing at the track it just sits unused. For months Gary Palmer, who's owned the speedway for years has been trying to secure permits that would allow the track and its event space to host other events throughout the year.

In January Palmer approached the town board seeking permission to host 12 non-racing events and was told at the time that he needed to submit specific plans for each event that needed to include various information regarding the proposed events. Earlier this month we learned that the town board approved Palmer's plans at their March 11th meeting with a 6 to 1 vote and would permit the speedway to host events.

Anything But Concerts in Accord, New York

After the town board voted to allow the non racing events it was unclear as to what type of events they would or wouldn't allow but now we have more clarity of what will be permissible at the speedway. The Accord Speedway will be allowed to host any non-racing events except concerts at the speedway and will be allowed to park 499 vehicles.

They haven't announced any of the events that might happen at the speedway yet but we do know that racing at the Accord Speedway kicks off on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. If you plan to go to the races this season you might notice a new sign near the track...
