Hudson Valley Student Athlete Pitches Perfect Game
We're in the thick of spring high school sports in the Hudson Valley and one high school athlete has just made history.
According to a CBS News story on May 10 of this year Shannon Becker, a high school sophomore from Mahopac high school, just pitched a perfect game.
Now that alone is fantastic, however there was a little more meaning behind Shannon's perfect game. Shannon's father, Bob Becker, told CBS News that no only did his daughter pitch a perfect game, she struck everyone out and "Nobody successfully put the ball into play."
CBS News also is reporting that Shannon's perfect game may be the "first perfect perfect game in the history of New York high school softball."
Shannon can pitch at over 60 mph (a softball pitch at 60 mph is the equivilant of a 93-94 [mph] baseball fastball) and she has 634 career strike outs.
It's still a little early to be thinking about colleges, but Shannon says schools started reaching out to her in 6th grade. Shannon hopes to play softball professionally, but if that doesn't work out sports broadcasting is her back up plan.
