After advertising a promotion that local Starbucks were giving away free reusable cups, the coffee shops ran out within hours.

On Thursday, November 1 it was reported that Hudson Valley Starbucks would be giving away free reusable cups on Friday, November 2 to kick off the holiday season. Well apparently everyone read that news because Starbucks in the area were mobbed this morning with people wanting the free goods.

Just look at the line at the Starbucks near Marist College:

It was discovered that most Hudson Valley Starbucks only had 100 cups to give out for free. The remainders were being sold for $2.50 each. Some locations, like the one in Poughkeepsie near Marist College, even ran out of cups to sell.

The catch of the promotion was that you had to order one of Starbucks 6 holiday drinks in order to get a free reusable cup. You could pick from Peppermint Mocha, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte, and Egg Nog Latte. Starbucks kicked off their holiday menu and annual holiday cup on Friday, November 2.
