Hudson Valley Man Created Marvel's Infamous Thanos Character

A Saugerties man is the creative force behind the villainous Thanos from The Avengers comics and movies. Jim Starlin worked for Marvel in the 1970s and didn't expect the character to carry on for as long as it has. Hudson Valley One reports Starlin got the gig during a time of rapid expansion within the company, he started on as an illustrator but writing is where he wanted to be.

The concept of Thanos came out of a psychology class Starlin took in college. It was inspired by Sigmund Freud's concept of human death drive or 'Thanatos'. Basically, he set out to create a very bad guy.

Thanos debuted in a 1972 issue of Iron Man, but it wasn't until 1991 was the Infiniti Gauntlet introduced to the storyline. The gauntlet ended up being key to the storyline of the now biggest movie of all time.
