There is a big day planned on the Wallkill River in New Paltz on Saturday September 14th. You are invited to be a part of the fun with all your family and friends. The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance along with Betty and the Baby Boomers and New Paltz Kayaking will be hosting The Great Wallkill River Race. The course will be a mile long on the Wallkill River starting at Sojourner Truth Park heading to the River to Ridge (R2R) Trailhead (no exiting) and then Back to Sojourner Truth park for a celebration.

The schedule starts with boat drop off at Sojourner Truth Park at 9 AM through 10 AM. Then from 10 AM to 12 PM they will launch boats. The race will start at 11 AM. From 12 PM to 2 PM there will be a celebration at the finish line at SoJourner Park on Plains Road in New Paltz. Prizes will be awarded for each age class by gender (12 to 17, 18 to 25, 26 to 50, 50 plus and a 2 person boat class. You are welcome to bring a boat or you can also arrange a rental with New Paltz Kayaking.

The registration fee for the race is just $25 and benefits cleaning up the Wallkill River. You can find out more about how you can help by contacting the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance.

The end of the race is a great place to be if you are a non-boater but want to come out to find out more information on what you can do to help. Also there will be family activities, a resource fair, food and live entertainment starting at 12:30 PM with Betty and the Baby Boomers.
