Starting September 30th CSX has announced that they will doing track repairs at CSX crossings in Ulster County. Yesterday via Facebook the Town of Esopus shared that they were notified that CSX will be doing repairs at 3 different crossing starting September 30 and running through October 4th.

The crossings are in Eastern Ulster County on the CSX River Subdivision line. The Crossing at Esopus Avenue is scheduled to be closed Monday September 30th through Wednesday October 2nd. The Crossing at Old Post Road will be under repair during this same time period. The third crossing is at Union Center Road and that is scheduled to be under repair from Wednesday October 2nd through Fri October 4th.

CSX apparently notified the Town of Esopus which promptly posted the information to their Facebook page. During the closures the NYSDOT will have detours set up to help people traveling thru the area navigate around the closures.

This CSX line has been a point of concern for residents in the area for over a year now. One of the re-occurring issues is the trains stopped in the crossings for prolonged periods of time. The Floyd Ackert Road crossing is a holding area for trains passing north and south on the line and often the train doesn't completely clear the crossing leaving motorists stranded on either side of the crossing with no ability to know when the crossing will re-open. Residence are not just annoyed about the often unscheduled undetermined wait but they also have concerns about the effects on emergency services in the area.

This same line has also been under scrutiny when it comes to repairs. Earlier this year falling rocks from trains on an over pass in the popular Rondout area of Kingston damaged cars. This CSX line that runs through the eastern side of Ulster County is very busy on a daily basis. It runs freight train 24/7/365 from Bogota, New Jeresy to Ravena, New York. It runs as many as 24 trains daily on its 131 mile trek.
