Charles P. Carpino of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away December 20, 2016 at age 92. He was born in Kingston, NY to Joseph and Theresa (Polacco) Carpino on June 13, 1924. He is pre-deceased by his wife of 46 years, Justine (Benigno); brothers Frank, Roscoe, James, John, and Michael; sisters, Rose Frangello and Mary Bonavita.

He is survived by his children Peter (Mary Ellen), Rochester NY; Ann (John) Hosking, Rhinebeck, NY; Charles (Korinne), Mt. Dora, FL; and Robert (Loren Centrello), Cold Spring NY; grandchildren Karen (Gus) Sentementes, Jason Carpino, Christine Carpino (Mike Allocca), Kelly (Brian) Lefcheck, and Sean Hosking; and great grandchildren Olivia, Gabriella, Evan, Elena and Jakob.

Charlie was the co-owner of Doff Shoes, a specialty children’s shoe store, which he ran with Frank Orlando, his trusted business partner and dear friend with whom he worked 32 years. A successful small businessman by day, Charlie’s true passion was music; for years, he played trumpet for the Stylists and other bands on weekends.

He was a member and past president of Club 60 and volunteered for a decade with Meals-on-Wheels and at Holy Trinity Church. In retirement, he became an avid bowler, voracious reader, and accomplished cook. He thoroughly enjoyed playing poker with his buddies from Club 60 and deeply valued their friendships. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Manor at Woodside and Vassar Brothers Medical Center for their care and compassion. Thanks also to Keith, Kevin, and Linda for making it possible for Charlie to live life on his terms and remain independent for as long as possible.
