Agnes Walsh Marona, of Millbrook, beloved sister, aunt and friend passed peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.                        .
Born in Yonkers, New York, daughter of the late Estelle Piekarski and Francis Walsh, Agnes lived most of her life in New York, except for when she studied at Rosary College in Illinois.  Agnes graduated from Maria Regina High School and the College of Saint Rose in Albany and received her masters degree from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York. Agnes was a Sister of the Resurrection in the New York Province for 22 years.  She enriched the lives of the many children she taught in the elementary grades.  She opened the world of learning to them.  They always knew that Agnes cared deeply about them and their success.  She helped them believe in themselves.  When Agnes completed her masters degree, she moved from the classroom to the library and continued opening the doors of learning at Maria High School in Hartsdale, Averill Park High School and Bennett College in Millbrook.  Agnes also was librarian at the Legislative Reference Library in Albany.
When Agnes met and married her Johnny, Millbrook and Marona’s Market became her new world.  Agnes brought her love of learning, teaching skills and organizational skills to Marona’s Market.  She became John’s partner in life and at the Market.  They were married for 38 years.  Agnes knew and loved the people of Millbrook and Millbrook opened its heart to her.
Agnes was the beloved wife of the late John Marona of Millbrook; cherished sister of Cdr. USN Ret. Ronald Walsh of Sag Harbor, Patricia Walsh of Sand Lake, Dianne (Michael) Walshhampton of Rensselaer, Kathleen (Howard) Weinberg of Virginia Beach; dearly loved aunt of several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.  Agnes was predeceased by her sisters Alexandria (George) Peet of Sand Lake, Dolores (Ralph) Merone of Poughquag,  Joane Walsh of California, Edwina (Ken Gatton) Walsh of Latham and by her brother Paul Walsh of Sand Lake.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 22 at 11 am from St. Joseph’s Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millbrook.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Agnes Marona be made to St. Joseph’s Church P.O. Box 439, Millbrook, N.Y.  12545.
