Is a $4.2 million investment in high speed electric vehicle charging stations along the New York State Thruway enough to convince you to buy an electric automobile?

According to a press release, Governor Cuomo announced the plan as part of his goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40%. With the Charge NY 2.0 initiative, the New York Power Authority would team up with the Thruway Authority to install new fast-charging stations at service areas and commuter parking lots.

With 2,000 such stations in place already, over the next two years, an additional 10,000 will be placed statewide. Four Hudson Valley service areas are part of the trial program at the Plattekill and Malden northbound and Ulster and Modena southbound.

Both Level 2 and Level 3 charges will be installed. Level 2 will be more geared towards commuter lots as these units take four to eight hours to charge. The Level 3 chargers will be placed at Thruway service areas and take around 30 minutes for a full charge.

Have you thought about going electric?
