I have lived in the Hudson Valley my whole life. I was born in Albany and raised i New Windsor in Orange County, which was basically part of Newburgh when I was growing up. We had the same zip code as Newburgh, and we all went to the same High School. I actually had over 1000 people in my graduating class at Newburgh Free Academy. All in all, I had a very happy childhood.

Over the years I’ve come to love so many things about the Hudson Valley that I didn’t appreciate when I was younger. I’ve lived in Poughkeepsie for over 25 years, and I love it here, too. I have talked to a lot of people that grew up in this area, whether it be Orange County, Ulster County or Dutchess County. I’ve lived in all 3 through the years, and loved them all, but Dutchess works well with my job in Poughkeepsie.

I have also talked to family and friends that grew up here in the Hudson Valley but had to move away for whatever reason. And they all tell me how much they miss living here. Yes, I realize we have high taxes, but even those who have moved away because it’s so expensive to live in New York seem to miss it terribly, and they try to visit when they can.

So, what did all these Hudson Valley natives love about living here? I’ve put together a list of 5 things that were mentioned the most. And I think I agree. Ready? Here’s the list…
