Multiple local colleges were named the best small universities in New York, with one ranking in the top ten.

Niche put out their 2018 list of the Best Small Colleges In New York, and the Hudson Valley had four colleges make the list. Three of the schools were in Dutchess County and one was in Westchester County.

Niche determined that a small school had 5,000 or fewer students attending. Both private and public universities were considered. They weighed academic grades, students' overall experience, professors, local area, safety, diversity, and more to determine each schools' grade.

Here are the schools that made the list and how they were graded:

23. Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville: B

16. The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park: B+

14. Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson: B+

6. Vassar College, Poughkeepsie: A

The school that was rated the best small college in New York was Barnard College in New York City. They had an A+ rating according to Nice.
