$100 Million Movie Studio Coming to the Hudson Valley
Construction starts next month on a $100 million film and television production complex.
News broke on Thursday that Lionsgate Films will be moving into the lower Hudson Valley, creating a full-service facility complete with sound stages and a backlot for filming outdoor scenes.
According to NBC New York, the facility will include five enormous sound stages ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 square feet. The complex will allow for simultaneous filming of various projects on-site, with the ability to also coordinate on-location filming throughout the region.
The Lionsgate Motion Picture Group consists of several film companies that produce an average of 40 feature films every year. On the Television side, Lionsgate operates the Starz network and has over 70 shows on various networks. The company has produced many award-winning series including Mad Men, Orange is the New Black, Weeds and Nurse Jackie.
The new Lionsgate Films headquarters will be situated right next to the Metro-North train station in Yonkers. The location is in perfect proximity between Manhattan and the Mid Hudson Valley, which has become a popular location for film and television production.
With a massive production studio so close to the area, we can probably expect to see even more filming in the Hudson Valley over the next few years. There are several projects currently in production in the Hudson Valley including the HBO miniseries I Know This Much Is True and an upcoming shoot for the sequel to A Quiet Place, which was filmed throughout New Paltz and Dutchess County.
