A Kingston woman jailed at the Ulster County Jail knocked out another inmate causing head and facial bruises.

According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, two inmates currently incarcerated at the Ulster County Jail were involved in a physical altercation. An investigation determined that 21-year-old Shana Shaw, of Kingston, assaulted the victim.

Authorities say the beating was so gruesome that the victim lost consciousness and had contusions on the head and facial areas. Shaw was charged with 2nd-degree assault, a class D felony.

Shaw remains incarcerated at the Ulster County Jail and will be produced at a later date for arraignment at City of Kingston Court.

The investigation was conducted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Detectives and Ulster County Jail personnel. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
