A Hudson Valley man is being mentally evaluated following a family dispute.  

On Thursday, at approximately 12:50 p.m. Saugerties Police responded to a residence in the Village for a dispute between family members.

While en route, officers were advised by 911 that one member of the family was brandishing a handgun.

Upon arrival, officers found the individual, identified as 83-year- old William Nieffer. Nieffer was arrested and charged with Menacing third-degree.

He was additionally charged under the Mental Hygiene Law 9.41 and transported to the Kingston Hospital for evaluation.

Saugerties Police Detectives seized the handgun and several other weapons from the residence.
