According to the American Kennel Club, these are the 10 best breeds for families:

1. Labrador Retriever

Labradors are friendly, play well with others and highly trainable, which makes them the perfect dog for a family setting.

2. Bulldog

Bulldogs are calm and courageous. They definitely won't be confused for energetic dogs but are loyal and work well with the family atmosphere.

3. Golden Retrievers

Goldens work well with families because they're fun, loving and easily agreeable. They're also intelligent. Certainly one of the most reliable breeds out there.

4. Beagle

Beagle's are just fun. They love playing around, which works well with children. Energetic and curious.

5. Pug

Adorable breed with a spunky personality but in a quirky way. Pugs are even-tempered and charming.

6. Irish Setter

Irish Setters are definitely a well-behaved breed, which is perfect for families. They're sweet-natured according to AKC and are very trainable.

7. Brussels Griffon

Much like pugs, griffon's are spunky and love to play around. Loyal and intelligent.

8. Newfoundland

This breed is as loyal as they come. They're well-behaved and devoted. AKC calls them sweet and that will be a great companion for a family dog.

9. French Bulldog

French Bulldogs are small but playful. They're loyal and easygoing according to the AKC.

10. Collies

One of the best-known breeds out there, Collies are loyal and affectionate. They also love playing, so an active family is best.
