A New Jersey teen lost his life after slipping and falling off Kaaterskill Falls Wednesday.

The New York State Police, The Town of Hunter Police, New York State Forest Rangers, Tannersville Fire Dept and Greene County Paramedics responded to a report of a subject falling off of Kaaterskill Falls in the Town of Hunter.

Once on the scene, they found the 17-year old from Westfield, N.J. deceased at the base of the falls. The teen was extricated from the scene by members of the Twin Clove Rope Rescue Team.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the teen was hiking with a group of relatives and friends when he made his to the top of the lower falls. As he neared the edge, he lost his footing on the wet rock causing him to accidentally slip and fall approximately 50 feet to the rocks below.

State Police do not suspect any foul play and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow’s date.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
