Steven H. Strandberg, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who valued family and friendship above all else, passed away on Tuesday, February 2nd at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital surrounded by family after a nine month battle with cancer. He lived in Millbrook, New York with his wife, Patricia, and was a long time resident of Dutchess County.
He was born in Yonkers, New York, on November 23, 1944, to Gertrude and Clifford Strandberg, who predeceased him. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered for his quick wit, selfless help and support of others, and his great love of history, books, ships, and music, especially that of the big bands era. He celebrated life and made the world a better place for all who knew him.
He served in Vietnam as a Special Agent for the Army Military Intelligence branch from 1967-1970. He began his long career with New York State in 1971 and worked with the NYS Division of Veterans’ Affairs from 1973 until his retirement in December of 2010. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and their families. As an eastern area supervisor he was cited for his leadership skills and tenacious efforts to benefit thousands of veterans whom he either helped directly or indirectly through his hard work and dedication.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia Roberts Strandberg, his son, William R. Strandberg, granddaughter Jordan Masciarelli, daughter-in-law Lisa Masciarelli, grandson, Alex Strandberg., sister Karen Brue, niece Patty Young, and her husband, Chris, and their children, and nephew Robert Brue, as well as brother-in-law Charles D. Alley and his wife, Scottie, and their children, and mother-in-law Helen Alley. He was predeceased by grandson Nicholas Steven Strandberg.
Visitation will be held on Monday February 8, 2016 from 4-6:30pm at Allen Funeral Home 3270 Franklin Ave Millbrook . On Monday evening at 6:30pm Funeral Services and Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army
