Public Hearing to Eliminate Free Parking in New Paltz

It has been discussed for quite some time at numerous village board meeting, but now the New Paltz village board is going to move forward with a plan to eliminate free parking on Sundays.  According an article in the New Paltz Times online, it’s part of one plan to help offset future budget problems.  The New Paltz Village Board is looking at increases for parking meters, water and sewer rates.

The village board is proposing eliminating free parking on Sunday.  Mayor Tim Rogers, explained at the last village board meeting that it serves two purposes.  One, it generates revenue, but also turns over spaces.  He said that keeping people returning to their cars on Sundays could lead to more business.   The adoption of the new local law to amend the village code for parking meters to be active Sunday between 9am and 6pm.

There is a public hearing scheduled Wednesday, June 27 at 7pm at the New Paltz Village Hall.
