Early Tuesday morning a vehicle crashed into home after leaving the roadway leaving one dead.

As we previously reported,  The Saugerties Police Department reported  that Route 32 was completely shut down near the Saxton Firehouse early Tuesday morning. There were reports that a vehicle had crashed into a home.

The Saugerties Police Department are now investigating a one car crash that resulted in the death of a 22 year-old Saugerties resident.

An investigation has established that a 2003 Jeep Cherokee operated by John Playford, 21 of Saugerties was traveling on Route 32, when Playford failed to stay on the roadway, running off the road, striking a utility pole, and then a house.

The impact caused extensive damage to the structure.

The vehicle continued to cross a driveway and flipped over, coming to a rest on its roof. A passenger in Playford's vehicle, 22 year-old Jacob Sweeney of Saugerties was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

The investigation is ongoing.
