Osiria “Sandy” Palau Funiciello, a Poughkeepsie Resident, Dies at 83
Osiria “Sandy” Palau Funiciello, 83, of Poughkeepsie, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ for eternity on December 10, 2017 as she held hands with her loving husband and was surrounded by family. Osiria was born in Palma Soriano, Cuba on November 6, 1934, the daughter of Rafael & Santa Estrada Palau.
She married Sisto Funiciello on April 9, 1961 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. He survives at home. Since she emigrated from Cuba, she worked a cosmetologist. She was beautiful and she loved making other people look beautiful. For 20 years she was employed at J.C. Penney Salon in Poughkeepsie, NY. Osiria always loved to have fun and enjoyed dancing with her husband, being surrounded by friends and family and laughing. She will be remembered by her gorgeous smile. Osiria was a member of the Italian Center Women's Auxiliary and was a Champion of the Italian Center Women's Bocce League.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her, and she took the greatest joy from her three grandchildren who were the light of her life. Her daughters’ love and support for her all through her life in the good times and especially during her lengthy illness was well known throughout her family and friends. She also loved her daughters’ husbands, whom she always referred to as her sons. They loved her and supported her by doing special things for her like taking her to the casinos, out for lobster dinners, satisfying her sweet tooth with baked goods, and also being her personal handymen.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands Dianne & John Davis of Poughkeepsie, NY; Elaine & David Paquette of Staatsburg, NY; brother: Rafael Palau; sisters: Belques Palau & Marlene Izquierdo all of Cuba. Grandchildren include: Alexander & Matthew Davis and Isabella Paquette. There are several nieces, nephews and many cousins that survive. Her aunt whom she was especially close to, Aurora Ramirez of Miami, Florida survives.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, 2017, 5-8 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December, 15, 2017, at 10:15AM in St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Entombment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to: St. Martin de Porres Church, the parish she loved OR Hudson Valley Hospice who cared for her with tremendous love and compassion.
