Mariah Carey Celebrates Camp’s 25th Anniversary in Fishkill
She almost didn't make it due to car trouble, but last week Mariah Carey made a stop in the Hudson Valley.
According to Good Morning America, Mariah Carey was recently taking in the great outdoors in Fishkill. For those of you who aren't familiar, Mariah Carey is a board member for Camp Mariah on Sharpe Reservation that was created through the Fresh Air Fund.
GMA followed Mariah on her trip up to Camp Mariah to celebrate the camps 25th anniversary.
Camp Mariah and The Fresh Air Fund is a three-week summer component of the "year-round Career Awareness Program." Students from 7th to 9th grade take classes like film, photography, fashion, culinary arts, debate and international relations. They also learn how to create a resume, write a cover letter and go through mock interviews to prepare them for the "real world."
Of course they get to enjoy summer camp activities too like swimming, sports and hanging out with MC herself.
Carey told GMA "When I was first, first starting out in my career, I thought about having a camp, because kids should be able to go to a camp where they feel safe and they feel like they can learn something."
I might be alone in this one, but I did learn about another Hudson Valley and Mariah Carey connection from the GMA report.
Did you know the classic video for Mariah's "Always Be My Baby" was filmed on the campgrounds? Mind. Blown.
