What’s the buzz? Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley is proud to present its 29th Annual Community Spelling Bee on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Marist College Student Center, with a snow date scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

The Community Spelling Bee is a signature fundraiser supported by more than 75 businesses and organizations raising funds to support literacy programs for adults and children throughout the Hudson Valley.

Corporations, clubs, non-profit organizations, and individuals are invited to sponsor teams at four different sponsorship levels: $1,000 Golden Honey Bee Level, $750 Bee Keepers Level, $500 Bronze Bee Level, and $300 Busy Bee Level. Ads in our event program are available ranging from $25 to $100.

Want to participate as a speller? The Bee is open to high school students and adults of all ages. There’s no need to be an “ace” speller; you just need to like words, reading, and having fun for a good cause. Spellers work in teams of two – grab a friend and join us for some friendly competition! The “Bee A Reader” raffle features a Grand Prize of a $500 Visa Gift Card and a First Prize of iTeknic Bluetooth 5.0 wireless earbuds. Tickets may be purchased at the event or in advance; winners need not be present. Volunteers are needed to serve as pronouncers, judges or scorekeepers for this annual event.

Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley, is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that for over 40 years has helped adults and families in Dutchess, Columbia, Greene and Orange Counties become functionally literate. We recruit and train volunteers to provide no-cost student-centered tutoring primarily for adults, and we offer programs and services for children and families that promote independence and enrichment through literacy.
