Evelyn E. Sapienza, 68, an area resident for 40 years and previously of Hawthorne, died at her home surrounded by her family on Halloween, her favorite holiday.

Born on April 3, 1949 in Yonkers, Evelyn was the daughter of Evelyn (Maberly) Imbrogno and the late Frank Imbrogno. She had worked as a teaching assistant at Cinnamon Tree Children’s Center in LaGrangeville for 25 years until her retirement in 2014. She was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville. She enjoyed shopping for antiques, gardening, playing bingo, hiking with her grandchildren, and visiting casinos with her husband, but more than anything, she cherished every moment that she spent with her family.

On August 16, 1970 in Yonkers, Evelyn married John Sapienza who survives at home. In addition to her mother and husband, she is also survived by her children and their spouses, Michael Sapienza, Richard and Nicole Sapienza, and Gina and Joe Giangrasso; her grandchildren, Michael Jr., Mia, Alyssa, Angelina, and Richard Jr. Sapienza, Julianna, Vincent and Jenna Giangrasso; her twin sister, Julia Carr and her husband Gerald; her brothers, Joseph Imbrogno and his wife Margaret, and Anthony Imbrogno; her best friend, Grace Merkle; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her brother, Frank Imbrogno Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
