For most, May 5th is a day to celebrate Cinco De Mayo with lots of Spanish food and a side of tequila. However, maybe this year we can change things up a bit.

The Department of Environmental Conservation announced that on May 5th this year, they will be celebrating I Love My Park Day.

According to the DEC I Love My Park Day, is an annual event that "brings together thousands of volunteers to celebrate and enhance New York's parks, historic sites, and public lands."

At different locations around New York, like trails, forest preserves, historic sites, there will be events to encourage New Yorkers to help clean up and restore these popular locations.

As we know the Hudson Valley is filled with some great parks and the DEC will be holding I Love My Park events at some on May 5th.

You can take part in I Love My Park Day at the following Hudson Valley locations:

Stony Kill Farm and Environmental Education Center- (Dutchess County) 10am-11am Trash clean up along the fence by route 9. Bring garden gloves and water. Appropriate for ages 13 and up.

Mongaup Pond Campground & Day Use Area- (Sullivan County) 10am-2pm All ages are invited for campground clean up and plant trees/shrubs.  Adults 18 and older are being asked to assemble picnic tables.

Catskill Interpretive Center - (Ulster County) 9am-2pm All ages are invited to help plant trees, clean up garbage, trail maintenance and removal of "invasive species."

Woodland Valley Campground & Day Use Area (Ulster County) 10am-2pm Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help with campground clean up. Volunteers 18 and older will be asked to help set up picnic tables and level the campground.
