Local cult movie fans are going to want to take note of this. A horror film set right here in the Hudson Valley was shot over ten years ago and never released. The studio mysteriously pulled it from theaters, and it's been a sought-after item among movie geeks ever since. Now, it's finally getting a release on DVD and Blu-Ray

Some of you may have heard of the movie: it's called The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and it was supposed to hit theaters in 2008. For reasons unknown, the studio pulled it from the schedule and it never reached a wide audience. Rumors abounded that the movie was too scary for audiences, or that the movie was cursed in some way. Other rumors suggested that the movie was merely bad. Who knows! The movie has made the rounds illegally and at specialty showings over the years, but this is the first time it's been available to a mass audience in a legal format.

Scream Factory is releasing the movie, and they're a great company that specializes in horror movies. They're also known for their in-depth special features, so it's likely we'll see some more local color on display on the Blu-Ray. Even if the movie turns out to be lousy after all this time, I still think it's pretty cool that something associated with our area has been driving horror fans for a whole decade.

Are you going to pick up The Poughkeepsie Tapes on Blu-Ray, just to see what all the hype is about? You can pre-order it here if you're interested.
