A woman from Orange County, out on bail for drug sale charges, is accused of selling heroin in the local area.

On Wednesday, 27-year-old Ashely Nellums of Port Jervis was arrested by Port Jerivs police detectives as part of a surveillance operation being conducted on Pike Street in Port Jervis.

Nellums was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, criminal sale of a controlled substance, both class B felonies, and criminally using drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.

Nellum is accused of being in possession of heroin, with the intent to sell and selling the addictive drug, police say.

According to detectives, at the time of her arrest, Nellums was free on $20,000 bail from the Pike County Court of Common Pleas in Pike County, Pennsylvania, where she is facing felony charges for drug possession and sales.

Nellums was arraigned in Port Jervis City Court and remanded to the custody of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office without bail pending action of the Grand Jury.

Under the New York State Criminal Procedure Law a local criminal court may not set bail on a defendant who has two or more prior felony convictions.
