Shirley Ruth Peppersberg nee Lucas, of Newburgh and a life-long area resident, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 5:02pm. The daughter of the late Edward A. and Rachel Mariah (Wells) Lucas, Shirley was born in Newburgh on March 13, 1938. She was 79.

Shirley was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and her early career was involved in the phone company in Newburgh and then as an employee for Key Bank in Newburgh. As her family grew, she cherished her role as a homemaker. On March 13, 1986, Shirley married her beloved, Murray Joseph Peppersberg and together they shared the joys of life for over 31 years.

Shirley had a heart of gold. She loved her family & friends! Everyone that knew her loved her. Her kind thoughtful ways were ever-present in all she did. Shirley’s life centered on sharing love with others-especially her family and was evidenced by the love which was returned to her. Her spirit will live on through those who knew her. Shirley enjoyed pinochle greatly-always enjoying the company of others during the games. Her spirit will live on through those who knew her.

In addition to her beloved Murray, Shirley is survived by her loving children, Alyson Lince Sprague of Orlando, FL, Edmund T. Fullerton and his wife, Jaclyn and their children, Thomas E. Fullerton and Heather D. Fullerton and great-grandson, Nathan Chase Fry all of Amherst, OH, Jill A. Champ and her husband, Kelly J. Champ and their children, Johnathon D. Champ, Trevor J. Champ, Nicholas F. Champ, all of De Pere, WI; a sister, Marion Sickler of Laramie, WY and her children, Jane and her husband, Robert Peck, Susan Earl and Thomas Sickler; a brother, Alvin Lucas and his wife, Elsie of Bellefontaine, OH; nieces and families, Linda and her husband Darrel Draughn, Penny and Johnny Bellerosa, Becky McCord, Julie and Sal Santiamagro and Cindy and Thomas Cavallucci; Nephew, Edward Lucas and family; niece Sandy Lucas and family and many, many friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Sonny Lucas and her sister, Margaret Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7PM, Monday, January 15 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 AM in St George's Episcopal Church, 105 Grand St, Newburgh, on Tuesday, January 16. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 219 New York 94, New Windsor, NY.
