Roger P. Shearin, a long-time area resident of Newburgh and a retired Foreman for the NYC Department of Sanitation, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh. He was 76.

 

The son of the late James and Anna (Harvinski) Shearin, Roger was born on March 24, 1940 in New York City. He married his beloved Eileen on January 15, 1966 in St. Philip Neri Church in the Bronx. Eileen survives at home.  Roger was a proud Marine and was grateful to serve our country from 1960-64. He continued his service as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for twenty years.

 

Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who loved to spend time with his family.  He will be missed by all.

 

In addition to his wife, Eileen, Roger is survived by his two daughters, Laura Palkovic (Greg) of Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Linda Tompkins (Bob) of Cornwall; grandchildren, Joseph Shearin Perez, Amanda, Jenni and Kelly Palkovic, Gabrielle and Bobby Tompkins and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his brothers, James Shearin Jr. and Vincent Shearin and his sisters, Elizabeth Carugan and Cecilia Shearin.

 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 19 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, January 20 at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
