A man broke into an unoccupied apartment in Ulster County and made himself right at home.

On Tuesday, Saugerties Police responded to a report of an unwanted person at an apartment.

The officers met with the owner of the building upon arrival. The building has several apartments in it.

The owner reported that while he was inspected his building, he discovered that 33-year old Pedro Rivera, of Brooklyn had taken up residency in one of the unoccupied apartments.

An investigation established that Rivera had broken into the apartment, and changed the locks.

Rivera was living in the apartment for several weeks before being discovered.

Rivera was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Trespassing, and Criminal Tampering.

He was arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
