Margarita Dalrymple, “Peggy”, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of her 90th birthday, February 4th, 2017. Margarita was born in La Estrella, Provincia de Chiriqui, Panama on February 4th, 1927 to Urbana Torres and Juan Gonzalez.
Margarita married SGM Richard A. Dalrymple in 1959 in the chapel at Fort Gulick, Panama Canal Zone. From Panama they started a lifetime adventure with their children Richard and Janet. They traveled the world and were stationed in California, Michigan, Germany, Staten Island NY, Virginia, Norway, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. Upon Richard’s retirement from the United States Army they returned to Poughkeepsie, New York in 1985.
Margarita worked as a telephone operator in Colon, Panama when she met Richard at a USO dance. Once married she took great pride in creating a home for her family in all the places they lived. She was a talented seamstress, crocheted beautiful afghans for family and friends, enjoyed making ceramics which she also loved to give, and took pleasure tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved nature and enjoyed sitting in the back porch of her home watching the birds and animals. She loved watching wrestling and was an avid baseball fan all her life and loved the New York teams, especially the Yankees. Margarita was an outstanding bowler, participating in local leagues wherever they lived, and had a high game of 269. In recent years she really enjoyed visiting casinos with family and friends. Most of all, she was good and kind and everyone who met her could see and feel that in her. We were so blessed to have her and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
