Hudson Valley Minor League Baseball Team Cancels 2020 Season

The New York Boulders in Rockland County have officially canceled the 2020 season.

The New York Boulders, a minor league baseball team part of the Frontier League, has made the announcement that their 2020 season is officially canceled. On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, officials from the Frontier announced the entire 2020 championship season would be suspended.

New York Boulders President Team President Shawn Reilly released the following statement:

“Obviously this announcement is disappointing, but not unexpected. We appreciate the effort that Bill Lee and all the Frontier League owners put into trying to find ways to salvage a 2020 season. For the last 4 months we have dealt with the complexity and fluidity of the health requirements for each of our numerous states and local municipalities in an attempt to play as a league this summer. Unfortunately with the continued uncertainty of Covid-19, the league will take this year off and look to restart in 2021."

The Frontier League announcement added that while the championship season was canceled, teams are able to have baseball and other activities in their stadiums that are in accordance with state and local rules. The Boulders President added in his statement that they are continuing to pursue options to still play baseball this summer. He added the safety of fans and players is their top priority and will only move forward if it is deemed safe to do so.

The New York Boulders, whose stadium is in Pomona in Rockland County. Fans typically come from the lower Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey to see them play.

This announcement comes after the MLB announced a shortened season would begin in July. The season will have 60 games and players will get roughly 30% of their salaries. The New York Yankees and New York Mets have begun training at their respective home stadiums.
