Larry J. Prescott, a Poughkeepsie Resident, Dies at 81
Larry J. Prescott, 81, of Poughkeepsie, NY died on March 27th, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the older son of Howard and Lula (Grout) Prescott. He was educated in the Blue Earth public school system and attended both St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering. He continued his studies in electrical engineering, earning a Master’s Degree at MIT and a PhD from The University of Minnesota.
In 1960 he married the former Margaret Rooney of Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada at St. Aidan's Catholic Church in Brookline, MA. They settled in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1965 where they raised their three children, Jim, John, and Mary.
Larry worked for IBM as an electrical engineer for 28 years after which he had a second career as a licensed US patent agent. Larry was in very involved in his community during his lifetime. He was an active and devout member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, serving in the Knights of Columbus, most recently as president. Larry was also active in the Wappingers Central School District, serving on the Board of Education. He was a licensed pilot and member of a local flying club, a long term board member of the Hudson Valley Credit Union, and a member of the IEEE, a professional organization for electrical engineers.
Larry is survived by his wife, Margaret, and their three children and families, Jim and his wife Brenda of Cambridge, MA, John and his partner Gil Resultan of San Francisco, daughter Mary and her husband Marc Archambault of Pomfret, CT, and grandchildren Molly, Kate, Jack, and Sophie Archambault, and Matthew Prescott, as well as his niece Heidi Agnew of Denver. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas Prescott, also of Denver.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2017, 4-8 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The St. Martin de Porres K of C #7551 will do a Memorial Service at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
