New rankings show just how "happy" New Yorkers really are.

Every year there are various publications that will conduct yearly studies to try and determine what are the happiest states in America and as we head into the last third of 2024 the folks at the finance company Wallet Hub have announced the 2024 Happiest States in America.

2024 Happiest States in America

Happiness is one of those things that almost all of us define differently and can come from a combination of many things but did you know that the state you live in could have a big impact on how happy you are? In an effort to identify the happiest states in the U.S. Wallet Hub weighed numerous factors to try and determine which state is the happiest. This year they looked at all 30 key metrics, ranging from emotional & physical well-being, and work environment, to income, productivity, community, environment, and more.

New York A Happy State?

According to this year's study, New York did not rank as one of the happiest states in America. That might not come as a surprise to many New Yorkers but did you know that New York didn't even make the top 20? New York has officially grabbed the #23 spot in this year's list after averaging all the metrics together. New York ranked as the 7th best state for emotional & physical well-being but after that, it was all downhill as New York ranked #43 in work environment and 46th in community & environment leading to the low ranking.

What State is the Happiest?

Hawaii took the top spot this year followed by (#2) Maryland, (#3) New Jersey, (#4) Utah, and (#5) Delaware. On the flip side the states that have it worse than New York include (#46) New Mexico, (#47) Tennessee, (#48) West Virginia, (#49) Arkansas, and (#50) Louisiana.
