Hudson Valley Mourns Loss Of Union Leader Who Dedicated His Life to Working People
A longtime union leader in the Hudson Valley unexpectedly passes away at 46 years old.
Over the years, there have been numerous articles I've written that have been harder to write than others. Sharing good news across the Hudson Valley is something I've always looked forward to, but on the flip side, I've always struggled with writing about sad news, especially when it hits close to home.
Hudson Valley Union President Unexpectedly Passes Away
Sadly, the President of the CSEA Southern Region, Anthony M. Adamo, has passed away at the age of 46, according to his obituary. Adamo, who passed away at home on January 5th, 2026, was a long-time New Paltz resident who dedicated his life to standing up for working people.
"Anthony embodied what it means to be a union leader,” said CSEA President Mary Sullivan. “He believed deeply in standing up for working people and never hesitated to fight for his members. Anthony was an extremely passionate person and made a lasting impact on our union. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the countless members whose lives he touched."
Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger said,
"Anthony was a strong and principled union leader who I’ve had the privilege to know and work with over the years. Whether advocating for fair treatment in the workplace or supporting families in our community, Anthony brought heart and determination to everything he did. His leadership in CSEA, AFSCME, and the AFL‑CIO leaves a lasting legacy."
Anthony Adamo, Friend
Not only was Anthony a strong leader for the union, but he was also a friend to many, including me. I first met him back in the late 90s while working in New Paltz, and as soon as we met, we hit it off. We both shared a passion for sports; he was a huge Yankee fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys, which is where our friendship began.

Although we didn't speak regularly over the years, the last time I talked with him was at the Dutchess County fair. We spoke about this possibly being the Cowboys' year and talked about his work within the union. He was extremely proud to wave the Union flag.
I would like to extend my condolences to his wife, Summer, his stepsons Gregory and Anthony, and his mother, Pauline.
Rest in peace, my friend!
