According to officials, the lake was origionally a mine and iron ore mining took place along the shores of Sylvan Lake during the 1930s. That means that today retainer wall pilings are still standing and can be seen if you have a boat on the water. People say, when the mine was filled with water , construction equipment and mining tools were left on the bottom and can still be found today. Pretty interesting...
