A Sneak Peek into Newburgh’s New Massive Recreation Center
While the Town of Newburgh still doesn't have an official opening date for their new recreation center at Chadwick Lake Park, a peek inside the new building shows some astonishing progress.
The project, which has been under construction since June 2024, initially had a 13-month estimate for completion. Despite the fact that the projected finishing date has come and gone, the exterior (and interior) look nearly ready to welcome the public.

As a Town of Newburgh resident, it's been exciting seeing the weekly progress of the massive building that's reported to contain multiple basketball courts, a walking track, an indoor soccer field, an exercise room, and more. A glimpse through its front doors showed some of those projects seemingly finished (below).
What's Inside Chadwick Lake's Recreation Center in the Town of Newburgh, NY
The double-sized basketball court, as well as the two-lane walking track surrounding it (below), are visible through the double doors of the recreation center facing Chadwick Lake's parking lot. The gleaming floors seem ready to invite Newburgh residents inside to enjoy their favorite activities.
Despite the lack of information on an official opening date, it seems a given that the recreation center will be fully operational well before the busy summer season, when many campers will be delighted to return to Chadwick Lake. While the early groundbreaking in 2024 displaced an annual summer camp, a larger indoor option in 2026 should be a boon for returning children.

The 37,000 square-foot recreation center is the latest addition Chadwick Lake Park, a public resource widely regarded as one of the best community destinations in Orange County (don't forget to attend their tree lighting this Christmas, which should serve as a blueprint for the rest of the Hudson Valley).
