Making Strides Comes to Woodbury Commons – RMWP Week 3

Thousands of people will stepping out for Breast Cancer Awareness and Action with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, October 16th, happening at Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets.

Making Strides of the Hudson Valley

The American Cancer Society, host of the largest breast cancer movement in the United States, will unite more than 20,000 walkers kicking off the 29th year of Making Strides in Westchester. Breast cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and corporate and community members are reuniting to save lives and ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. The bittersweet mission of Making Strides is to celebrate survivors and paying meaningful tributes to loved ones lost, all while raising awareness and funds for a world without breast cancer.

Why Does Making Strides Matter?

In 2022, female breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide with 2.9 million cases. In New York alone, 118,830 women will be newly diagnosed with breast cancer. This disease doesn't just impact women, but also men, with an estimated 2,710 men nationwide expected to receive a diagnosis.

Black women are 41% more likely to die of breast cancer than white women overall, and twice as likely to die if they are younger than 50 years of age. One in eight women will fight breast cancer in their lifetime. Recent medical issues caused by the pandemic and other factors have contributed in causing a 6% drop of reported breast cancer screening.
