Newburgh Not Happy with New Big Lots Replacement
After Big Lots closed their location on North Plank Rd in Newburgh, many local residents were hoping for a special replacement.
While fans of Big Lots were happy to hear that the closure was only temporary as the store moved down the road to a new location, hope remained for the original location to provide something new to the area.
New Businesses Opening in the Town of Newburgh
It wasn't the first time that the Town of Newburgh was disappointed with the replacement of a tenured store. When ShopRite closed their doors in 2022, many residents were unhappy to learn that the grocery store would become the nation's 149th Ocean State Job Lot location (below).
What Will Replace Former Big Lots Location in Newburgh, NY?
Further down North Plank Road, many hoped that the rumors of a Hudson Valley Whole Foods moving into the former Big Lots location would prove true. Unfortunately, it seems that the wish will remain unfulfilled.
Freshtown Marketplace Coming to Newburgh, NY
PSK Stores, a company that operates several different grocery store brands in the region, recently announced that a "brand new, state-of-the-art grocery store" will soon be opening at 59 North Plank Road in Newburgh (below).
Newburgh Uncertain About New Freshtown Grocery Store
While many residents expressed disappointment in the announcement ("It won’t be able to compete with Market 32 which is practically around the corner"), the president of PSK Stores insists that Newburgh will be delighted with the new addition (below).
While the dream of Whole Foods (or even Trader Joe's) still lingers, Freshtown will offer similar options including sushi, to-go lunch options, and an in-store dining area for customers. While no date has been released, PSK Stores president Noah Katz says the store will be open "soon".
